Where it all started...

My school

The voyage to the zenith started on 18th the April, 1977. The Govt. of West Bengal came up with a new school at a growingly popular place Salt Lake____ Bidhan Nagar Govt. High School. The idea was to bring forth an advanced Govt. school to redefine ‘good schooling’ at a far lesser expense compared to the famous private schools. And the experiment was a definite success if not more. Soon ‘BD school’ was making the headlines in the academic circuit. With not even sufficient chair-tables to begin with, the school had only its will to survive & grow further. The first Head Master Late Satyendra Nath Roy with a very few teaching & non-teaching staffs worked his way out through all the shortcomings & eventually converted this school to one of the best schools in Kolkata. But that is only the conventional way of looking at it. ‘BD school’ always had a place for lateral thinking. Students here have always been encouraged to participate in sports & all cultural activities. If the ‘balance’ between academics and extra-curricular activities is being admired then the ‘balance’ in the teacher-student relationship should also be highlighted. And such has been the bond that no matter who came in as far as the adaptation is concerned it has never been an issue. So the success BD School experienced at such an early stage is not a reflection of pedantic learning but is a consequence of a healthy, warm & inspiring environment.
